Frequently asked questions
What is Trusthold?
Trusthold is an escrow service for peer-to-peer deals in Nigeria. When you're buying or selling something with someone you don't fully trust yet, Trusthold holds the buyer's payment until both sides have done their part, then releases it to the seller.
How does a deal work?
One person starts a deal and sends the link to the other party. The buyer pays the item price into Trusthold (there is no Trusthold fee during launch). The seller then ships the item. When it arrives, the buyer confirms it and has 48 hours to check it. The money goes to the seller when the buyer says the item is fine, or automatically when those 48 hours end with no problem reported.
How much does Trusthold charge?
Nothing while we launch. Trusthold is free during launch: the Trusthold fee is ₦0, so the buyer pays only the item price.
How long is the inspection window?
48 hours, starting when the buyer confirms the item arrived. If the buyer does not report a problem in that time, the money goes to the seller automatically.
Is my money safe with Trusthold?
You pay into the bank account of Trusthold Marketplace Limited, and the money stays there until the deal is done. Trusthold is run by Trusthold Marketplace Limited, registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria (RC 9886434), as noted in the Terms of Service. It is still new, so treat it the way you would any new platform: for deals you're comfortable reporting to our team if something goes wrong, not as a substitute for a bank-grade custody service.
What happens if something goes wrong?
The buyer can report a problem on the deal page: before the item arrives if it was never shipped or the tracking stopped moving, or within 48 hours of confirming it arrived if it is not as agreed (this needs a video of opening the package). The money stays with Trusthold while a person looks at the proof from both sides and decides whether it goes to the seller or back to the buyer. A seller with a problem can email support@trusthold.net.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, if you report a problem and the person reviewing it decides in your favour. If a deal is cancelled before anyone pays, no money moved, so there is nothing to refund.
What payment methods can I use?
Bank transfer only, for now. The deal page shows the account, the exact amount and the note to use.
Do both people need an account?
Yes, right now both the buyer and the seller need a free Trusthold account to create or accept a deal.
Is there a mobile app?
No, Trusthold works entirely in your browser, on desktop or mobile, no download needed.
How do I contact support?
Email support@trusthold.net, or use the Contact page.
